The Curriculum

ACA Method

AcaMaths Method is a Mathematics learning system that focuses on 3 essential parts that make up the whole of learning experience, namely Arithmetic, Concepts and Applications.

Arithmetic

This part of learning focus on the study of numbers, especially the properties of the traditional operations on them—addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

It will begin with basic counting till the mastery of complex and mixed operations of numeration.

Concepts

This part of learning focus on students understand the ‘why’ or ‘big idea’ of mathematic concepts. Mastery of a mathematics concepts means students not only know the answers, they know the working and real meaning behind the answers.

With this, the pain of memorising math facts is taken away because students can figure out an answers and able to tell if the formulas isn’t working for different context of mathematics problems. It is essentially reaching an upper tier in mathematical thinking  that allows students to think and process abstractly.

Applications

This sections enriching students experience in making use of what they pick up along their journey of learning Arithmetic and Concepts, applying them to solve mathematical problems while nurturing their Maths Sense.

Curriculum Structure

Like structure of buildings, solid foundations determine stability. Skills building in Mathematics require similar principle. AcaMaths construct solid mathematics foundations of students by focusing our curriculum of Essential Maths in these building blocks. Each are important pillars of success in mathematics.

The learnings relating numbers that include how numbers is represented, relationships among numbers, the number systems and meanings of operations for them to compute fluently and make reasonable estimates.
The learnings of the relationships of
1) Fractions and its equivalent,
2) Decimals and
3) Percentages
by comparing, ordering, converting and relating them in real life situations.
The learnings to understand measurable attributes of objects, the units systems and processes of measurement through applying appropriate tools, techniques and formulas.
The learnings to express and analyse mathematical situations and quantitative relationships using algebraic symbols and mathematical models to identify and study changes for various given contexts.
To learn the properties of 2D and 3D of geometric shapes, analysing its characteristics and develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships.
The learnings to collect, organise, formulate and display data that can be analysed by means of appropriate statistical methods to develop inferences, evaluate predictions and apply concepts of probability.
The learnings of building mathematical model through solving problems that arise in different contexts by applying and adapting a variety of appropriate strategies.

Learning And Assessment Cycles

At AcaMaths, we understand learning is a journey, therefore assessment and learning goes hand in hand in cycles as parts that form the whole journey.

  • Assessment for Growth

Assessment is not the destination of students learning  journey but a process. Our assessments are used to understand what each individual child needs to progress and it is certainly not a measure to reward or punish them.

We are taking our assessment prior and after learning progress to carefully identify which specific math skills areas that each student’s need at his/her own development & learning pace.

Check-ups and quizzes are make regularly throughout the learning in progress to ensure skills mastery and retention.

  • Tailor-made Learning

We carefully select personalised tailor-made lessons plan from the information we obtained from the assessments and assist children progress through the materials. Each individual will have their own set of lesson plan depending on the gap and needs of their stage of mathematics progress.

  • Nurturing Instructions

Learnings take place at moments when it triggers child engagement and curiosity of the unknown. Apart from assessments we are taking regularly, we want to be with the children when learning happens. Our  instructors are trained to catch the most teachable moments throughout the journey of learning.

  • Continuous Learning

Completion of learning each milestone will move students into new learning cycles. We are cultivating the idea of  “infinity” in learning mathematics ~ i.e. there will always be new discovery or new skills to learn after mastering a topic or concept.
